Year 4 –  Visit from Sven Greybeard the Viking

Year Four were lucky enough to have a visit from a real Viking called Sven Greybeard.

We were shown lots of different weapons that the Vikings used and one member of the Blue Class clan had a lucky escape from a large axe with the help of a very heavy Viking shield! We learnt about the importance of a helmet as another brave child of Blue Class attacked Sven with a sword and we realised just how loud a Viking battle would sound!

We looked at the Viking alphabet called ‘runes’ and had a go at writing some of our names which was a bit tricky as they did not include all of the letters that we have today. We also learnt about the different Viking Gods and Goddesses and the clever design of their longboats.

The children had a fantastic afternoon and start to our Viking topic! They really enjoyed handling and learning about the Viking artefacts.
