The children at Walberton and Binsted CE Primary School benefit from a creative approach to English, inspired by their choice of topic and learning. As well as regular adult led reading and writing activities, children have daily opportunities to record their learning through pictures and mark making.

The Read Write Inc program that we adopt from the second part of the Autumn term, supports pupils in their ability to decode words (read) and encode words (spell), as well as helping them to form accurately punctuated sentences.

We aim to ensure that every child enjoys reading, writing and responding to texts, whilst raising standards for every pupil.
In our inside and outside learning environments, we offer many writing opportunities to the children in their self-initiated learning, so they can explore writing independently and in ‘fun’ ways. This includes:
-writing captions, sentences, name cards for the role-play area
-making lists of trikes on our road surface
-writing lists and recipes in our mud kitchen
-adding words to our giant outside blackboard
-writing kind words about each other on our ‘proud cloud’
